SUPER SMASH BROS. MELEE (gc)

checked-part =>Secret Characters: Once you complete a certain task, a secret character will challenge you in battle. Beat this character and you will be able to play as them. * Jigglypuff: Complete either Adventure or Classic mode, or play 50 Vs. mode battles. * Luigi: In Adventure Mode, play until you reach the flagpole at the end of the Mushroom Kingdom (Level 1). Touch the flagpole to end the level when the seconds digit is 2 (__:_2:__), and Luigi will replace Mario in your battle against Mario and Peach. Complete Adventure mode and you will battle Luigi. Or, play 800 Vs. Mode battles. * Dr. Mario: Beat the Classic or Adventure Mode as Mario without using a continue, or play 100 Vs. Mode battles. * Young Link: Complete Adventure with 10 characters or play 500 Vs. Mode battles. * Ganondorf: Complete the special challenge Event 29, or play 600 Vs. Mode battles. * Marth: Use all of the starting 14 characters at least one time in Classic, Adventure, or Versus mode. Or, play 400 battles. * Roy: Complete Classic mode with Marth without using a continue, or play 900 Vs. Mode battles. * Falco: Beat the 100 Man Melee. If this is difficult, use Donkey Kong and continually do the D+B attack on the lowest platform. Or, play 300 Vs. mode matches. * Pichu: Complete special event #37. Or, play 200 VS. mode matches. * Mewtwo: Once you've played a combined total of 20 hours in the Versus mode, you will battle Mewtwo. Your total time is listed in the Data Screen. Please note that each human that plays is credited for time; this means if you have four human players playing Versus mode, you will earn 20 hours after a mere 5 hours of playtime (5 hr x 4 players). Alternatively, you can batle MewTwo after 700 Versus mode battles. * Mr. Game & Watch: Complete Classic, Adventure, or Target Test/Break the Targets with the other 24 characters. Or, play 1000 Versus matches. =>Score Display: This option will display the score for each character during battles. Once you earn 5,000 KO's in the game, activate this from the Custom Rules menu. You can keep track of who is winning or losing a match as it takes place, rather than waiting for the end. =>Stage Switch Control: Once you play 200 Vs. Mode battles, and after you enable Mushroom Kingdom II and the Flat Zone stages, the Stage Switch option will be available. This lets you remove specific stages from the Random Stage Selection option. =>Character Secrets: Some characters have special hidden abilities. * Auto-Shiek: To begin a match as Shiek, choose Zelda and start holding down A on the character select or stage select screen. Don't release it until the match begins. Zelda will transform into Shiek during the 5 second pre-match countdown. * Star Fox Team Taunt: In the Corneria or Venom stages, Fox and Falco can activate a special taunt by rapidly pressing PAD: L R L R L R etc.. Keep pressing back and forth until the Star Fox team appears. This can be done once per match. * Samus's Super Grapple: Repeatedly press [L]+A to use your grapple beam while repeatedly pressing the PAD U and D. At some point, the beam will double in length. When it is in this state, you need to press A to manually grab an opponent with the beam hits them, but you can use [L] or [R] to have the beam target someone. The beam resets to the normal size when you die or when the match ends. =>Victory Pose Select: If your character wins a battle, they will normally perform a random victory pose on the results screen. If you hold X, Y, or B before the screen appears, you can determine which of the three poses your character performs. =>Extra Battle Stages: After you play 50, 100, 150, and 200 Vs. Mode battles, a new stage is unlocked for play. These stages seemed to be chosen at random. Here are the stages you can unlock this way. * Brinstar Depths (Metroid) * Fourside (Earthbound) * Big Blue (F-Zero/Mach Rider) * Poke Floats (Pokemon) =>Extra Battle Stages 2: Complete the listed requirements. * Mushroom Kingdom II (SMB2/Subcon): Once you get the Birdo trophy, this stage is available. * Flat Zone (Game & Watch): Complete Classic/Adventure mode with Mr. Game & Watch. * Battlefield (the Wireframe battle level): Complete All-Star mode. * Final Destination (Master Hand): Complete all 51 special event matches. * Classic N64 Dreamland (Kirby): Complete Break the Targets with all 25 characters. * Classic N64 Yoshi's Island: In the Stadium Home Run contest, get a score of at least 1400 feet. You may need to do this with Yoshi. Remember that there is a home run bat on the platform with you. * Classic N64 Kongo Jungle (DK): Complete 15 Minute Melee. =>Alternate Music: Some battle stages have alternate music. To play the alternate music, highlight the stage, hold down [L] or [R], the press A to choose that stage. Do not release [L] or [R] until the battle begins. If playing a multiplayer battle, each player might need to do this. There seems to be a special trigger that determines when a stage's alternate music is available. I do know that after earning Mr. Game & Watch, most of the alternate music seems to be available. Prior to that, I am not yet sure. * Icicle Mt - Balloon Fight travel music * Termina Great Bay - Saria's Song/Forest Theme * Hyrule Temple - Fire Emblem theme * SMW Yoshi's Island - Super Mario Bros. 3 tunes * Onett - Alternate Earthbound theme ("Mother 2") * Big Blue - Mach Rider theme * Pokemon Stadium - Pokemon battle music (Gold & Silver?) * Mushroom Kingdom or MK II - Dr. Mario theme * Battlefield - 100 Man Spar 1 tune * Final Destination - 100 Man Spar 2 tune ? =>Target Test Alternate Music: Choose your character for the Target Test, then hold down either [L] or [R] and press [START]. The level will start with music from that character's stage. ->Event Matches: As you progress through the game, additional event matches become available, until all 51 are available. Earn secret characters and complete the prior matches until more events are available. * Stages 40-50: Beat 30 matches and unlock all the characters in the game to make stages 40 through 50 available. You might not need to unlock Pichu. * Stage 51: Beat stages 1-50. =>Sound Test: Complete Event Matches 1-51. =>Trophy Sound Selection: If you play a tune in the Sound Test, then go to the Trophy Gallery, the background music played will be the one you last listened to in the Sound Test. =>All-Star Mode: Once you beat Classic or Adventure with all 25 characters, the new single player All-Star mode is available. In this mode you battle through all the characters in the game, but you are given just 3 heart containers to refill your life. =>Versus Player Name and Data Display: This isn't covered well by the game or manual, so here is the information. After you choose a character in any mode of play, their picture and name will appear on the bottom on the screen. Go to this picture, place the cursor on their name, and press A to bring up the name selection screen where you can enter or choose a saved player name. If you want your stats in Versus mode to be saved, make sure you always choose your name when playing. To view the player stats, go to the Data - Melee Records - Vs. Records screen and press Y or X to bring up the player stats. Use [R] or [L] to go through the pages. =>Trophy Coin Trick: Want to save money when using the Lottery? When on the Lottery screen, remove your memory card, then try to win a trophy. If you get a new trophy, plug the memory card back in and press B to return to the main menu, saving your game as you do. If you don't get a new trophy, press RESET and then plug your memory card back in. Repeat the trick. This way you'll never spend coins unless you get a new trophy. =>Colored Outfits: Once you have chosen a character, use X or Y to change the color of their clothing/fur/skin. Princess Peach has an alternate outfit that makes her look like Princess Daisy. =>Earning Trophies: There are three different versions of each playable character's trophy. Unlock them by beating the Classic, Adventure, and All- Star mode with each character.
