If you lose a life, however, he'll don his hat again until you are back to 99 lives. ->Restoring Mushroom Houses: In the single player gamer, rescuing Toad from a level and carrying him to the exit flagpole will restore a Mushroom House on the world map. The color restored depends on the ones digit of the timer when you hit the flagpole. Green houses are restored on 0-3, Red on 4-6, or Gold on 7-9. * Multiplayer: To make houses reappear in multiplayer, hit the flagpole at the end of the level when your timer ends with a multiple of 11 - that is, with the last two digits of the timer being 11, 22, 33, etc.. Gold houses are restored on 99, Green on 11 or 22, and Red on 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, or 88. =>Saving: Beat the game once and you will be able to save at any point, instead of only after beating castles or towers. =>Stars: As you progress through the game, you'll unlock up to five stars which will appear on your save file on the file selection menu. * 1 - Complete the game once, defeating Bowser in world 8 and viewing the credits. * 2 - Play and finish every level in worlds 1 - 8. * 3 - Collect all the Star Coins in worlds 1 - 8. * 4 - Collect all the Star Coins in world 9. * 5 - Complete EVERYTHING in the game (All coins in 1 - 9, access every secret exit, use all warp cannons, visit all Mushroom houses, etc. Make sure to beat the world 7 castle using both the normal entrance and the secret entrance!) =>Sparkling Stars: If you manage to play the entire game without having a Super Guide block appear, any save game profile stars you earn will sparkle. However, if you ever have a Super Guide block appear and you save the game, the stars will revert to normal. Thus, never save the game after having the Super Guide block appear! =>Super Guide: If you die eight times on a single level, an exclamation point block will appear at the level's beginning or midway point. This is the Super Guide block - hitting it will bring Luigi in to play through the level for you. * The appearance of the block will remove your ability to earn Sparkling Stars, so you may want to quit to the title screen and reload your last saved game. * Completing a level will reset the "death" counter for that level. Thus, if you die six times and then beat the level, you would have to die an ADDITIONAL eight times on the level (without beating it again) to make the Super Guide block appear. =>World 9: After you beat Bowser in world 8, the game will unlock World 9. World 9 has eight levels, all of which are locked off. Collecting all the Star Coins in any world will unlock one level in World 9; to unlock all of World 9's levels, you'll need to collect all the Star Coins in worlds 1-8. =>100% Completion: Get all 5 stars on your save file and you'll receive a special message about finding everything in the game. This will also permanently unlock all the Mushroom Houses in the game, allowing you to gather items without having to continually save Toads. =>Coin Flowers: Spin in front of a flower and it will spit out a coin.
