checked-no =>EX/Gold/Shadow Characters: In Survival Mode, you'll face an EX Shadow version of a character once every twenty levels. Defeating the character will unlock it in the game. Eventually you'll start reaching golden versions of characters every 20 levels. Again, defeat them to unlock them. To select these characters on the player select screen, just continually press the color select button ([ZR]) until Reload appears (press Dust for the shadow character) or Slash appears (press Dust for the gold character).
